IP Challenges in a shifting global economy

Mastering IP data analytics

The Annual Silicon valley meeting of the IP Counsel Café focused on the acceleration of business changes and shifting global markets that require companies to change their IP strategies.

Cipher was delighted to speak at the IP Counsel Café on this theme.

Panel discussion

Nigel Swycher, CEO of Cipher sat on a panel discussing Corporate IP Counsel’s New Role: Mastering IP Data Analytics for Litigation and Transactions While Increasing Efficiencies.

The in-house patent community discussed best practices for extracting insight from data and how to use tools to increase efficiencies.

Our key takeways from the conference

These were:

  1. Classification of Patents
Being able to understand the changing patent landscape by using your own view of the technology area is extremely valuable for proactively managing your portfolio.
  2. The threat from NPEs
Concern about NPEs is increasing. Cipher can help you to quickly assess any Inbound Patent Assertion and also help you to understand where your NPE threats are.
  3. How do you value patent portfolios?
Patents are a business asset and the ROI of a patent portfolio can be calculated and used as a way to communicate its value to the business and improve that value. Find out more in our ROI report.

We look forward to next year’s conference – in the meantime, the Cipher team would be happy to discuss any of these findings.  Please contact us in the first instance.
